I love my job! BIG Images often gets to work with companies just starting out, companies that find themselves at the ground level, releasing innovative new products.

Recently we worked with VRS Marketing to produce tradeshow graphics for their booths at the Consumer Electronics Show and MacWorld. They’re a small local company based here in San Luis Obispo County, but they have some revolutionary ideas.

How Color Can Play Tricks With Your Eye

Color is one of those elusive subjects; it is very difficult to communicate precisely. Many variables, from lighting conditions to the surrounding environment to the age of the viewer, have an effect on the way we perceive color. Some variables in particular change the way colors are perceived when prints become large. In this article I show you some visual aids to demonstrate how a color can be perceived differently simply by changing the surroundings.

The Luminance Illusion

Lets start with a simple grayscale example. The image below demonstrates how our perception of depth and shadow effects the way we perceive color. To be more precise, the following illusion will show how the eye perceives the luminance of an object different from the actual luminance values. Press “Play” to reveal the illusion.


You will see that the top and bottom grey are actually the same value! This effect is know as the Cornsweet illusion. You can read more about it here at Wikipedia.

It's the best way to spend Labor Day Weekend on the Central Coast!

This year, 2006, marks the third year running that BIG Images has sponsored the San Luis Symphony and Pops by the Sea. Challenge:
Oracle needed an on-demand print shop to produce projects such as the 7 ft. x 10 ft. banner, capable of withstanding the rigors of the outdoor environment - sunlight, moisture, cross-country transportation, all within 20 hours.

Solution:
BIG Images utilized its custom designed production facility and inks built for outdoor use to produce this huge full-color banner in less than 20 hours.   The unique reinforced vinyl banner material is designed to withstand the test of time and outdoor elements.
